Weekend || My iPhone CAN’T swim

This weekend I stayed in Charlotte for a girls weekend, which was super fun. Here’s a peak into my weekend:

Friday- a relaxing evening full of Netflix: Scandal season 4 & chipotle with Sara.

Saturday- Coffee with the girls, we went uptown to 7th Street Market to grab a coffee at Not Just Coffee, a place I had never been. I must admit that I am not a coffee connoisseur and normally order a simple brewed coffee. This morning at this fancy coffee shop, I decided to get a macchiato, figuring it would be just a step up from the normal. I was pretty disappointed  when after waiting 10 mins for my coffee that when it came out it was a “fancy” version of espresso in a tiny cup that looked like it would be served at a 5 year olds tea party. Needless to say, maybe I should do my research next time.

I also stopped at the Viva Raw Juice Bar and picked up the Turmeric Almond Milk and I could not put it down.  Although juices are expensive, they are a meal within themselves and my milk filled me up!

For the afternoon I headed out to the pool to catch some rays before getting ready for TIM MCGRAW!!! The concert was soooooo good, although it was HOTT until the sun went down. Per the usual Tim put on a great concert, played many of his old & new hits, and the crowd was on their feet the entire time.

Sunday- Started off really early. I have been eating clean and changing my life style through Tone It Up, but last night I had a few drinks & also ate a hot-dog, definitely NOT on the TIU Nutrition Program. At 4:30 am I woke with the worst stomach ache and I could not fall back to sleep, hello Netflix…again. I ended up watching almost 3 episodes of Scandal and then was back to bed around 6:15 am.

At 11am I attended a free Xtend Barre: Charlotte class held in Athleta at South Park mall. The class was tough and my body was feeling the burn after the first 15 mins. After class I did a little shopping & then it was time to head home & get back out to the pool.

I made iced coffee, blew up a float, and started re-reading the book Lean In. It was a glorious day outside, not too hot & not to cold. I had my phone & my towel on the edge of the pool & read for about an hour until I decided to respond to my texts and then it happened. I put my phone down, it slipped off my towel right into the water. MY “new to me” iPhone5 that I had only had for a few months was in the pool. I grabbed it out & ran inside dripping wet to put it in rice with fingers crossed that it would eventually work again.

Since life is life and accidents happen, I didn’t let the phone issue bother me too much that night. I went to Trader Joe’s to gather ingredients for a Sunday meal-prep evening. I made berry bliss bars, protein snack balls, and quinoa pasta salad. I also used Sara’s new spiralizer to make zucchini noodles for a “spaghetti dinner”.

The night was filled with watching… you guessed it- SCANDAL--- and I still have a few more episodes left!

Overall the weekend was a great one--despite the phone accident-- phones can't swim. Here's to getting a LifeProof case for my next one!

What show are you watching on Netflix? Ever dropped your phone in the pool? Did it still work?

P.S. my phone is still working—the screen has horizontal lines ever so faint across it—we will see how long that lasts.

Weekend | Raleigh Times

This weekend in Raleigh…

Alex {my brother} and I listened to the podcast, Start-Up, the entire way to and from Raleigh. Although we are still not finished listening, we are hooked & we think you should be too. Check it out!

On Saturday we had dinner with my grandparents. Being able to spend time with them is something that I love!! I enjoy the stories that they share and always learn something new.  Grandpa shared a joke about Bill Gates talking to Steve Jobs (who was up in heaven). It was hilarious!

Both Saturday and Sunday we had brunch at home. Family + fruit + scrambled eggs = one happy girl.

Sunday I came down with a horrible cold/cough/lost voice. NOT FUN. Now, I have meds and hopefully will be back to 100% soon. While at the doc’s they made me wear this embarrassing mask. My dad’s reaction: “Very nice. Bird Flu?” hahaha thankfully no!
wearing the super cute mask
The weekend was nice and relaxing and I was not ready to leave. I am also helping my grandpa locate an old friend so they can catch up. I got this email from him last night. I love you too gpa!

So blessed my 94 yr old grandpa can use technology-- very well!
My dad’s birthday is tomorrow & coincidentally my Uncle Gary’s is the same day—be looking for a post tomorrow!

xoxo

Weekend | Surprises and Goodbyes

This weekend was jam pack full of fun and exciting activities. Friday evening Jack and I made a last minute decision to head Uptown for dinner at Fahrenheit during Queen's Feast: Charlotte Restaurant Week. Luckily we were able to long onto    for online reservations while parked and there was an 8:45pm spot open. SCORE! The food was amazing, the views even better, and having our friends join us towards the end was icing on the cake.
Rooftop Views + Wine + Fire

Saturday my parents came to Charlotte to drop off some furniture and hang out for the day. My dad and I ran errands all over town; the best being getting gas at Costco for $1.73 a gallon!!! I never thought I would see the day gas was so inexpensive—can you believe it?

That evening was a surprise going away party for my friend, Chris, at Dandelion Market. I wish I would have taken a picture when she saw so many of her friends all in one place, a perfect surprise! Chris, I am going to miss you dearly, but my boots are packed and i'm coming to visit you in Nashville soon!!
Some of the gals before Chris arrived
Ladies
Me & Lyndsey bittersweet goodbyes Saturday evening-- miss you already and see you in PR soon :)

Sunday was your typical Sunday: Church, late lunch a Portofino’s, laundry, and FOOTBALL! Can't wait to see the Seahawks take on the Patriots in the Super Bowl XLIX in a few weeks!

Happy MLK Day even if you are working (I am too!).

Weekending | Hornets & Friendsgiving

Friday night Jack and I went to my first Charlotte Hornets game. We had pretty good seats in section 116 and were sitting right next to the UNC-Chapel Hill Basketball team!! Of course I had to get my picture with Marcus Paige--- I mean who wouldn't when your that close! Although the Hornets lost in the end even though they were up 25 points at one point I had a wonderful time cheering on the team, dancing to the music {it was 90s night}, and getting to see the UNC team + Roy Williams.

Saturday we had our pre-friendsgiving football game. Amanda and I were the only girls to show up, but we had a wonderful time. I even caught the ball when my team went for the extra 2 points despite that my team lost both games
Opponents
After the game we watched The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in anticipation of going to see Mockingjay, Part 1 ---which we were going to watch Sunday and ended up just watching Netflix.
Saturday night we headed to our friends Goddard & Kirkham's house for our 2nd Annual Friendsgiving. I made one of Jack's favorites-- Cheesey Potatoes {recipe soon!}, and the guys fried a turkey, which was something that I had never had before. The turkey was my favorite thing with the mashed potatoes coming in a close second. By the end of the night we were all stuffed! We had a great time together with old friends and some new... and especially enjoyed when Goddard sang/danced along to "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift. Just plain Hilarious!
